CURRICULUM

The KinderPrep curriculum is uniquely designed by KinderPrep teachers for KinderPrep students.  Our curriculum intertwines the scope and sequence of Virginia's Early Childhood Development Alignment Project with the content of the Foundation Blocks for Early Learning created by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Preschool Initiative.  For example, we know that a child should grow in his/her approach to learning by developing persistence, initiative, creativity and reasoning.  We encourage the development of those skills through age level appropriate math, science, social studies, and literacy activities that allow for hands-on learning and exploration.  Our curriculum establishes a measurable range of skills and knowledge essential for each age level to successfully transition to the next level.

The 2008-2009 school year saw the introduction of a new, essential learnings based curriculum. We are following a scope and sequence that emphasizes the developmental skills of children. We have based this information on the Foundation Blocks for Early Learning created by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Preschool Initiative. This curriculum established a measurable range of skills and knowledge essential for each age level to be successful in their transition to their next level. Literacy, mathematics, science and social studies are imbedded in this curriculum in a variety of "hands-on" activities. Each month brings a special focus for letter and number recognition, literacy and writing skills, math and science exploration and special event days. Children attend a weekly chapel service where they hear stories and lesson from the Bible. Daily gross motor time with our Gross Motor teacher is always a highlight of each day. Our Gross Motor curriculum focuses on fitness and muscle coordination activities. Weather permitting, children enjoy outside each day. During inclement weather, the children use our inside “running room”.

Many classes take advantage of our church’s computer lab to introduce the children to appropriate computer skills and programs. Additionally, some classes combine each week to give the children a time to interact with other peers to sing songs, do finger plays and play instruments.
Music and crafts are embedded throughout the day using the arts to reinforce content.

Aldersgate KinderPrep bases it's curriculum using the Comprehensive Standards for Development as set forth by the State of Virginia.  To review Virginia's Foundation Blocks for Early Learning and Virginia’s Early Childhood Development Alignment Project click on the links below.
